Food Units

General Description

Every amount of food can be measured using different units for convenice sake. Food Units Implementation allows user to select and operate with food units of his choice or change them under different sircumstanses: sugar for tea and cake would be measured in tea spoons and cups correspondingly.
Each food has predefined set of applicable units. Each unit for each food has equivalent weight in gramms. For example: 'Tomatoes, red, ripe, raw, year round average' have following units and gramms equivalent:
1 cup cherry tomatoes : 149 g;
1 slice, thick/large (1/2" thick) : 27 g;
1 wedge (1/4 of medium tomato) : 31 g;
1 slice, thin/small : 15 g;
1 NLEA serving : 148 g;
1 cup, chopped or sliced : 180 g;
1 Italian tomato : 62 g;
1 cherry : 17 g;
1 large whole (3" dia) : 182 g;
1 medium whole (2-3/5" dia) : 123 g;
1 slice, medium (1/4" thick) : 20 g;
1 plum tomato : 62 g;
1 small whole (2-2/5" dia) : 91 g;

You can choose food units on Food View in Selected Food table. Three columns "Units", "Amount" and "Weight" are provided for easy manipulations of food units. Column "Units" provides choice of units types for each food and is taken from food data source. Second column "Amount" sets food quantity in the selected units. "Weight" column reflects gramms equivalent of the selected amount for the food and can be set as well.

The value in the "Amount" column is recalculated if new value for "Weight" is set or if value for "Units" is changed.
The value of the "Weight" column is recalculated to match modified "Amount" of food in the current units.

Hint: This feature can be used in recipes when you need to convert one units into another.
